Cappadocia region of a slide show
The Capadoccian region is located in the center of Anatolia. The unusual rock formations were created as the result of eroding rains and winds of thousands of years of lava covered plains. Erciyes and Melendiz volcanic mountains were places of troglodyte dwellings carved out of rocks and cities dug out in the ground that present an otherworldly appearance. The flood waters from the rivers running down the hillside valleys carved out bizarre shapes called 'Fairy Chimneys'
